Do What You Love…

How True Happiness is Living an Intentional Life

You’ve heard it before. Do what you love, and you’ll never work another day in your life.

This is complete BS.

I do what I love. In fact, I help other people do what they love, so I’ve got oodles of proof.

In fact, I’m 100% sure.

Do what you love, and you’ll never work harder.

“But,” you say, “I’ll want it, so it will energize me, right? It will feel meaningful instead of soul-sucking, right?”

YES.

It will energize you, it will light you up and it will feel incredible and meaningful and valuable.

AND…

Sometimes you’ll feel like you’re getting nowhere, and sometimes it will terrify you. Sometimes it will paralyze you and make you feel like throwing in the towel, and sometimes you’ll think you got it all wrong.

And because this part is unexpected – because this part doesn’t align with messaging like

“you’ll never work another day in your life,”
“if you build it, they will come,” or
“happily ever after,” rock-stars like you are at risk of giving in and giving up before they even get started.

What you believe truly is what you become.

If you believe that it’s supposed to be easy (or that it’s easy for others), you’ll give up when the going inevitably gets tough because you’ll think that it’s about you.

If you believe that once you build it, (your shop, website, symphony, masterpiece…) everything will fall into place, you’ll question your own value and capabilities when it doesn’t.

If you believe that there’s some sort of finish line where happily-ever-after is sitting and waiting for you to arrive, you’ll miss the actual joy that comes from doing what you love.

On the other hand…

If you believe that you are the person to do this thing (whatever it is) no matter what, nothing on heaven or earth will stop you from accomplishing it.

If you believe that there is no such thing as “ready” or the “right time,” you’ll jump in anyway, and fail yourself forward into unimaginable success.

If you believe that happily-ever-after is actually the act of living an intentional life, then the fairy tale is yours to keep.

This Week:
Become what you believe.

  1. Fill in the following blanks:

    a. I believe that I am meant to be ______________________

This can be anything (President of the United Stated, a mom, the next OPRAH) as long as your heart and soul cry out for it.

    b. I believe this because___________________________

List at least 10 reasons you believe this

  2. List at least 10 things that might get in your way.

  3. Fill in the following blank:

I believe that no obstacle will stop me because__________________________

List 10 things that you have accomplished or lived through already that were really difficult.

  4. Write the following mantra. I am (your 1a answer). Nothing will stop me because (your 1b answer). Happiness is mine in every moment that I choose it. I am completely open to every opportunity to fulfill my life’s purpose and know that purpose may evolve as I do.

Read every morning when you wake up and right before you go to bed.

  5. Start today.

Choose one thing you can do that will move you forward and do it. (It can be tiny or enormous – movement is the key.)
