INCREASE YOUR CONFIDENCE
When all of those scary WHAT IF questions get in the way of your confidence, try this…
fear, momentum, unstuck
One of the biggest things that gets in the way of your confidence is the BIG, SCARY, WHAT IF.
What if I fail?
What if they laugh?
What if I go broke?
What if…
When those questions pop into our heads, they’re usually coupled with doomsday scenarios that are not only unrealistic, but if they did happen, you’d still survive.
Take the time to actually ANSWER the what if question, and answer it fully, and you’ll find that your problem solving brain kicks in and presents you with a solution.
This may be a solution that you don’t like, even and the situation will almost definitely never come to pass, but your brain will automatically relax knowing that you have an answer.
For example:
Q: What if I fail? A: I’ll lose all my money.
Q: Then what? A: I’ll lose my house.
Q: Then what? A: I’d be out on the streets.
Q: Then what? A: I guess I’d have to find a homeless shelter.
Q: Then what? A: I’d probably start helping the people there…
You can see that the deeper you go – no matter how far-fetched the scenario, your brain will solve the problem if you let it. Once it does, it will turn down your body’s emergency broadcasting system, giving you more energy to face your fears head-on.
For even more energy, flip the question and do the exercise again with WHAT IF IT GOES WELL?
