Coming Change…

Who will be ready?

“You will find that it is necessary to let things go; simply for the reason that they are heavy.”

– C. JoyBell C.

We’ve been talking about change and uncertainty a LOT lately.

I don’t know about you, but every single list that I’m on is sending me emails about their COVID 19 response.  Even my GAS COMPANY is sending them.

All of these emails are trying to comfort me with promises of normalcy, ask for my patience as they adapt to new protocols and prepare me for changes that may be coming down the road.

This is a model we can adopt in our personal lives.

Comfort in Normalcy
It’s 100% OK to seek out a little normalcy – you need it.  Find places where you can keep to existing routines that you like or, if you’re feeling a bit expansive, build on behaviors or activities that are in your current comfort zone.

Adapting to What’s New
Just like every one of the businesses sending you their COVID Response Email and asking for your patience as they figure out how to adapt, so too should you be patient with yourself and those around you.

Prepare for More Change
This is where things get a bit challenging. How do you prepare for something that is undefined – unpredictable?  You can’t.

It requires a reordering of the problem.

Rather than trying to preparing yourself for a thing that you can’t define, prepare yourself to be a person who is comfortable in the midst of change – someone who feels grounded when the ground is shaking.

And to do that, you’ll need this week’s challenge…

This Week: Become a Zen Master of Change

1.  LET GO The more judgment, fear, expectation, and blame you release, the easier it will feel to navigate changes big and small.

2.  LISTEN  Start by listening to your body.  Notice what it feels like when you’re triggered by something outside of yourself.  Use those somatic cues to tell you that you’re about to react to a situation with default behavior.  Take a moment to choose how you want to respond instead.

LISTEN to others.  Once you’ve let go of all that junk (judgment, fear, expectation, and blame) you’ll hear much more clearly and be able to engage with curiosity and wisdom.

LISTEN to your heart (and gut). Deep inside, you know what you value most, what you find meaning in and when you’re most proud of yourself and who you are.

3.  LEAN IN Free of judgment, fear, expectation, and blame and infused with that inner-knowing that comes from listening, you will find yourself easily acting on the things that matter most to you, in ways that you’re truly proud of, no matter what is going on around you.

Oh yeah, and don’t forget the patience part – this kind of growth doesn’t happen overnight. Be kind, easy, and loving to yourself as you practice.
